Graduate Tests Required
GRE, GMAT, MAT and TOEFL Information
Always contact the department you are applying to, to find out what test(s) are
required. GRE, GMAT and MAT are departmental requirements, not Graduate School
requirements.
GRE (Graduate Record Exam) general test
- Many departments at SIU require that you submit a score on the GRE (general exam).
While most departments do not have a particular minimum score that is required, it is
considered along with all other required materials when the admission decision is made.
- The general GRE exam is now given only on computer in the U.S.. Students
may take this exam at the Prometric Test Center in Carterville, IL. The cost is
approximately $150. Please see http://www.ets.org/gre
to register and for more information.
GRE (Graduate Record Exam) subject tests
- Some departments may require or recommend that you submit scores on a Subject
GRE exam.
- Some GRE subject tests are still given on paper and may be taken in Lawson Hall
about two times a year. Please see http://www.ets.org/gre
to register and for more information. You may also contact April Imhoff at Testing Services
(618-453-6003) for more information.

program and to Accounting.

at Pearson Professional Centers, 103 Airway Drive, Marion IL; 618-993-8253. The cost
is approximatedly $240+.
MAT (Miller's Analogy Test)
- Several Education departments at SIU give students the option of taking either
the GRE or the MAT.
- The MAT is now given on computer at Testing Services. Currently normally offered two
times per month. Cost is approximately $80. Testing schedule and cost may change
from one semester to the next. Contact April Imhoff at Testing Services (618-453-6003)

campus. The cost is $25; the test is given aproximately every two months.

when applying to other schools. Results are normally available within 1-2 days.

contact the Admissions Officer in the Graduate
School Admissions Office, Woody Hall B103, who handles the paperwork for the
department you are applying to. You may not sign up for the test at CESL,
but must do so through the Graduate School Admissions Office.
- Before we can sign you up for the test, you must submit a Graduate School application form
(preferably online at https://www.gradapp.siu.edu.
This may be for Nondeclared admission, if you are eligible.
- THEN you must present official copies of your transcripts/diplomas to the Admission Officer listed below.
